LED Tailgate Lightbar?

I was thinking of ordering a Recon LED tailgate light (Line of Fire or White Lightning), but I got looking at the space between the bumper and the bottom of the tailgate on my '08 and the opening for the spare tire crank-down is located there.

My questions are:
1. Does anyone have one of these lights installed on their Ranger?
2. How did you get around not having access to your spare?
3. Is there room for the light bar AND the crank opening?

Pictures would be helpful =)

This is the light: http://www.gorecon.com/product.php?pk=46

Thanks guys.

i have one on mine...its actually for a full size truck but i just drilled out the metal on each side and slid it on then centered it...only screwed it on with 2 screws and you can still slightly lower the strip to access the spare tire hole. Looks great too!

rangerfanatic,

You cut the light bar in the middle or shortened it? I have one like CanadianRanger is talking about on order but don't even have my truck yet so I didn't know about the tire crank access. I need to develop a contingency plan or return the item to the vendor. This is the last time I order anything ahead of getting my truck. The one CanadianRanger is talking about mounts with 3M automotive tape so it will not be movable. Is yours some other brand that mounts with screws??

Thanks

George

Thanks for the PM MuscleFord.

I recieved my RECON White Lightning on Monday from Underdog. It took all of maybe 15 min to install, including removing tailgate for better access.

Great product!! It has 4 pieces of plastic with the 3M tape on them. The light bar actually screws to these plastic pieces. This design allows the bar to clear the plastic insert around the hole for the spare tire crank-down. Now if access to the spare is needed, you just remove the 4 screws and the light bar can be removed leaving the plastic tabs with the 3M tape in place.

I was going to take pictures of the install, but my camera was dead. Oh well.

Like I said....great design...great product.

Awesome!

I was looking for answers to these exact questions and I found them!

Now I'll order my light strip!

Thanks TRS!

At <www.stylintrucks.com> they have 2 choices; a 60" and a 48". Both are a little pricey considering the shipping charges. I have one on my F-250 and am thinking about putting one on my B2. You can also get one with built in back-up lights. Don't know how bright they are but it might be something to consider. Just my $.02:icon_thumby:

I made a mount and moved the spare tire to the bed. With all the road salt and mud, I never liked my spare under there, anyway.

I'll be getting a tiregate to get my spare out from under there (also so I can have a spare the same size as my other 4...) eventually but I was glad to hear this doesn't interfere with the winching hole grommet.

I've been watching them on Ebay and they seem to be going around the same price as <www.stylintrucks.com>. Hopefully I can find someonee locally who sells them so I don't get hosed on shipping/duty/exchange...
