3.0L v6 problem

Hey, I just bought a 2000 3.0L v6 Ranger XLT 5-speed. It a great truck only has 166,xxxkms on it. Previous owner was an old man and was crazy about mainteance. Only one problem when I start it up it idles perfect motor is quiet as can be, but is soon as i touch the gas I hear a tick(I believe) and when in gear driving down the road you can hear it. Too me sounds more like somthing could be rattling like exhuast then lifters. Motor has right amount of oil in it, fresh oil change 1,xxxkms ago. Doesnt affect performance of the motor just annoying, thanks for help! :beer:
 
check cam position sensor gear may be going. oh and dont go cheap. this is a part where the cheaper it is means it is junk.

Maybe pull it and see if the teeth are worn. They are not something to mess with. They run the oil pump, so if it goes your pump does= dead engine.

What you are describing could be numerous things. Check for manifold leaks.
 
You're quite the adventurer, buying a vehicle with engine noises. I would have walked away as soon as I heard it.
 
mine has the same thing...let me know when you figure it out!!!!lol

I replaced one less than a year ago, got it at NAPA/about $70 bucks. Is that "junk"?
