Just got a 97 ranger that will be off with my son as he goes back to school. 130k on 4 cylinder with automatic
Not sure if the tranny was ever flushed.
Shifts fine now...no slippage
Should I drain/flush the tranny fluid or just leave it be?

I have heard some say that if it was never drained/flushed on a regular basis to just leave it alone. I am not sure about this?

Feel free to have it flushed and the filter changed.

It is pure fiction that a tans flush will wreck an automatic transmission. Most of these horror stories are from vehicle owners who have neglected the transmission and it has started to act up/slip and take it in for a trans flush as a last minute fix for it. They then bitch when the trans gives up the ghost.

All a flush does is uses the pump in the transmission to exchange all the fluid in the transmission, it does not actually force fluid through it.
