my ranger needs a new motor soon i need to know what motor will fit in my 96 ranger with the 4.0l v6 or just rebuild the motor and the motor has 290,000 miles on and a head gasket leak????:icon_confused:

a 1995-up engine is a more or less direct fit, though you'd be best planning on swapping your sensors onto any replacement engine.

one minor caveat... if you get a mid-1997 or newer engine you will need to get a new flywheel or A/T Flex plate with it, because someime in mid 1997 Ford switched from a Six bolt pattern to hold the flywheel to the block to an EIGHT bolt pattern with Male Torx head bolts.

But other than that for your purposes any 1995-up engine will do.
