are all 88 up 4 cylinder 5spd 2wd trans interchangable?

Up to early 2001. All 88 to 99 2.3L and the 2.5L are the same. The Duratech 2.3L that started mid-year 2001 was different.

does this also apply to the mazda trucks?

I don't know for sure. I don't think that the Mazda trucks were using the same trans until they merged with the Ranger line in the 90s.

94 drive shaft ujoint and 99 slip yolk ujoint different sizes-used napa joint #353. 94 uses speedo cable,99 trans uses electric speedo but 99 trans appears to have speedo drive cast into tailhousing but not fully machined. Does the 99 output shaft have the speedo drive on it? My 94 tailhousing is split from slip yolk freezing to output shaft.

No. you would need to use the one out of your trans, if the shaft is even machined for it.

To finish machining the tail housing you would need to drill it close to the right size and then ream it the rest of the way. You need a smooth bore to be able to seal, something a drill bit wont accomplish.
