hi everyone i was just wondering if the ranger ever came with a 2.3 DOHC? if so what years?

thanks

sorry if this is in the wrong place

Yeah. I'm pretty sure the Duratechs from like 03 on where DOHC.

I clearly remember in school taking apart an engine that we had just gotten from the factory. It was a 2.3L DOHC and the prof told us that it was a Ranger engine.

The Duratec 2.3 is DOHC and came standard in Rangers from mid-year 2001 till 2011.

Thank you. I'm a bit sick this weekend, so its a bit hard for me to tell what's real and what I hallucinated right now.

:agree:
early 01 trucks still had the SOHC 2.5 lima
the late 01 until the end of Rangers will have the 2.3 dohc duratec engine

ok thanks how much work would it be to swap for my 2.3 lima block and turbo it?

a lot i guess since its a completly different animal. complete harness and transmission would be required

Plus manifolds. You will need different exhaust and intake manifolds.

If you don't turbo it you should be able to use the current trans.

the focus has the 2.3 duratec and theres lots of performance parts for them is it the same motor as the ranger? just mounted differntly for a fwd setup instead of rwd?

not 100% on this but i thought the newer focus had a 2.0 duratec engine ,not a 2.3

i found a site that sells complete focus 2.3 duratec turbo kits, 2.3 duratec forged crankes cams rods pistons intakes etc.

my only question is will this be a harder swap to do then doing a volvo head swap?

o and forgot to mention this will all be going into a 1983 ford thunderbird turbo coupe that im mounting to a ranger chassis

i think your a little over your head here if you have to ask if doing a head swap is harder than a complete rebuild, plus adding a turbo and plumbing, and extensive tuning, dyno time, et all

It has both. They are basically the same engine anyway though.

yea because ive rebuilt an engine to push 700 hp in an integra type r but ive never had to modify a volvo head or any head to fit on a different motor.

so if its easier to just do a volvo head swap and call it a day im going to do that. im trying to bring the car back to life with a 16v head for better air flow instead of the pos 8v.
