what vehicle would you buy for offroad only

if you had 1,000 to buy a vehicle and 500 to modify it for offroad use what would it be? what would those mods be? brand doesnt matter but if its a truck it has to be extended cab.

im looking to start a new project and am just throwing around some ideas right now.

sorry guys but with that budget i would say an older 'Yota, theyre a dime a dozen and super cheap to build up and very reliable in my experience.

I'd either find a bronco...full size of course(i hear they're easy and cheap to lift ) OR a Dodge Raider..either with the V6 or the 4 banger diesel. I towed one just the other day. The guy had bought it for $200 in running condition. The body was in good shape too.

I honestly think with that kind of money not much at least around here $1000 would get a fixerupper then spend that 500 fixing it. To get a good offroader that you can dump money into just modifing it would cost prolly no less than $2500-5000. But if you have the extra parts to build a frankentruck get a suzuki samari or maybe a old Jeep... smaller the better most tails are carved by jeeps if you take a full size truck on a decent trail it won't look the same when your done.

nah around here in east tennessee trucks are cheap.

I would say like a BII or something... Maybe an explorer? Yota's seem to be rusted beyond repair (no road legal so technically it would work lol) or made of solid gold, same with Jeeps (beat up or gold), I also think a Suki would be good to. you can swap in VW diesels in them and swap on yota solid axles and have a pretty awesome rig.

ha....older toyotas arent cheap, modifying them is cheaper then others, around here a toyota where the frame isnt rotted is worth 1500 regardless of how everything else is

x2 those things are cheap, and SOA with YJ springs will flex like no other. they are the perfect junkyard setup. use toy axles, sidekick motor, yj springs

Why does it have to be an extended cab? I would not pick a Ranger for off road use only...I would go with a 84-87 Toyota truck (or 4Runner) with solid axles and a real decent lift and use 35's on it since this is what I had before and I used it 3 weekends a month for 7 years and it never EVER broke down on me...not once!!! It had flat black paint with black cloth interior and I used a Warn 9,000lb winch that I very seldom had to use...to get a friend out of trouble but not for my Toyota.
