getting a lean code on both banks possible cause?

Most probably cause is a vacuum leak or intake gasket gone. Spray around the upper/lower intake and fuel rail areas and along vacuum lines with some brakeclean or carb cleaner. If you hear it pick up RPMs, you're in the right area.

Same problem with my '97. I assume its the same engine (OHV).. I'm too looking for some assistance. Sorry for the thread jack
Look for a leaking PCV valve hose. This may be the cause of your problem.
Also, clean the MAF sensor. If it is dirty, it may throw the readings off to make your engine think it is getting too much air.
Vaccuum leaks are the most common cause. Listen to Sasquatch, use some carb cleaner and spray around. Anywhere leaking air will cause either and increase OR decrease in RPMs.
Mine on the other hand, I cant determine what is causing it.

Have you replaced the fuel rail gasket? Ford has a TSB for just that issue with the 97's.
