Just wondering if anyone has any advise about how to remove and reinstall a M5OD without having to rotate the transmission nearly upside down to remove. The Ranger that I am working on is a 1992, 4.0, 5sp 4x4, extended cab. I left the transfer case on when removing the transmission. What is the best way to remove it?

Unbolt the transfer case and unbolt the exhaust in between the muffler and cat.

I've pulled a tranny out of an identical truck, remove the t-case and start wiggling that damn thing till it comes out, lots of people say you need to pull the y-pipe, I've probably done 7 RBV trannys ranging from 2.8, 2.9s and 4.0s and never had to remove it, removing it usually causes more problems because of snapping bolts.

:agree:

Take the transfer case off and work it around. It will come out with the exhaust in place. I've done it with the FM-146 and the M5OD both in my B2.

^x3, ive done soo many with the t-case still attached aswell, just get it up enough to get it off the crossmember, remove that, and with some gental persuasion itll make its way out, is easier fi said truck has a body lift aswell
