Hey there,

I know this isn't an explorer forum but I thought maybe someone would know the answer to this. I am trying to help a friend repair his explorer. The oil dipstick tube actually snapped in half where the tab is welded on. My question: Once you remove the bolt that holds it to the side of the head is there any trick to pulling it out?

Thanks,

Geoff

Pull. If that fails, pull harder.

brute force....i think there's some sort of sealant from the factory on them...stick some vice grips on them and twist if it doesnt wanna come out

Yeah, there is a o-ring in there that helps lock it in place. Just give her a good ol' yank.

wear gloves so u dont cut the piss out of your hand when it all of a sudden comes free...i always pull and twist at the same time...good luck:icon_cheers:

Hey thanks for the advice. I managed to get it out by first twisting it with a pair of vice grips then locking the vice grips down and using a pry bar to get it out. Unfortunately I broke the end off the new one when I was bending it to match the original. Back to the Ford dealer and order another one.:bawling:

been there done that. for a while there i was pretty good at f'ing up new parts trying to put em on
