Both tires are low and rain washed...
It has been sitting for some time.
I have never sen a diesel in a 4 runner.
they do ride like a buckboard, Wheel well, and parts are easy to find.
Wheels are the same as a chevy and some Nissan/ Datsun.

probably just the 22-r motor the te and the diesel are really uncommon in a 4-runner

im a equal oppritunity offender here....have LOTS of experience with those trucks, being a 88 itll have a 22RE, that isnt a factory hoodscoop, and the frames turn to swiss cheese, if the frame isnt pristine it isnt worth a dime over 500
the 5spd and 4.10 gears(they all have) isnt bad, i ran a 88 with 7" and 35x15.5r15 TSL SX's with a 4cyl and stock gears, it was a dog on the street but i could run highway speeds no problem and would wheel its ass off in 4low

I'll second the comment about the frames, especially the rear part. One thing that might be worth mentioning is, if you're a big fella you'll find it a bit tight on interior room.

not a runner, im 6'2 and weigh 235, i fit just fine in a 4 runner, theres plenty of space
check behind the gas tank and by the rear shock mounts, they are usually chewed up there.
i will say this, the good thing about a toyota with a clean frame, is even if the truck is junk and the frames prestine, the frame along is worth a grand to yota guys lol
for a idea, i payed 500 for this runner, as u can see why lol, i "patched" it, and wheeled it till i blew it up, sold it for 600 with the blown motor cause it was a LIFTED TRUCK and call it a day lol

i beat that thing like a redheaded stepchild
i was actually giving people paid rides in it at 1/4 mile, trucks getting stuck on 40's and bigger and this little runner just walked through the hole after they got pulled out

4runners are nice to build up... If you can live with the 90hp motor, you'll be fine. The 87 will need SAS'ed and then it's almost unstoppable. Run whatever tire you want if you break an axle get longfields for it. Marlin and trail gear both sell 4.7:1 t-case gears. Or do dual transmissions like a friend of mine is..

i ran those 35" sx's for 6 months i was driving the truck until the engine blew, i wheeled that truck EVERY weekend with the IFS in the front, if u lift a IFS toyota properly its every bit as strong as its solid axle brother. having owned almost as many toyotas as i have rangers and lifted far more i have found that to 35's even on the extreme of the width of a tire i was running isnt a problem even with a lose nut behind the wheel
and my 22re that was in it was closer to 120, its very easy to build a 200hp plus 22re, reliable as the day is long
id be willing to say the toyota IFS will take anything a d35 front will

Yota IFS is probably stringer than the d35. I'll agree to that. We gave wheeled a few. The ifs will hold up but when playing on those rocks the flex of the sas is better. We ran a 4runner both ways.. Only thing we broke on ifs was one CV and the steering (a couple times). But we could have built a better steering for the ifs. Just solid axle is better on rocks. Maybe that's just my opinion but...
And the 90 hp was just a sarcastic joke of the lack of hp that you make up in torque and gears. The 22re with dual transmission is the way to go! A gear to run any size tire from 28's to 44's with 4.10's in the axles. It's a trip, I gotta go check out this yota of a buddy of mine.
