who all on here has made their own tailgate? some of you might know that im in the middle of helping dad restore his 95 ranger for me to drive instead of my gas hog f150. the tailgate wasnt even salvageable but im hoping he hasnt gotten ride of it yet. i saw one guy on here that took their tailgate brakcets and what not and welded up a rectangle and used it. pretty sweet idea. i like it alot. has anyone else on here tried anything like that? im not sure how that one guys latched at the top. it didnt look like he used the handle assembly on it. i was thinking some kind of pin or something. that way i could throw a padlock on it or something if im hauling my fourwheeler or whatever and leave it by itself for awhile.

come on guys lets get them creative juices a flowing!

started building this last winter for my ranger, its 2"x2" angle iron corners cut at a 45* and welded together. i have recently wrecked my ranger but im keeping this tailgate and going to fit it for my s10 bush truck. tailgate is not done yet been too busy. i used the stock cables for the gate, the top is normally how it should be and i just bolted the other end to the gate, but left the bolt slightly loose the gate opens and closes properly. these are pretty cheap to build, i had the angle iron laying around but had to buy the expanded metal which was only like 20 bucks.

here's the build thread.
