does anybody know anything about these things i found them in the parts section of the site so i fugured since there on here they might be worth the money?? i have a 2.9 im building and doing a bore and possibly a cam and want to find something to put a little guts behind the 2.9

Chips modify the stock settings on your OBD I computer to optimize your truck's output. Once you change anything such as a cam, injectors, mass air, throttle body etc..... the chip becomes useless.

There are some that say you can "burn" a new program into a chip to accept mods but I have never seen a thread with proof of this and where to get it done.

Oh and welcome to TRS!

i had one in my 00 when i had the 2.5 before i swapped the 2.3, made a noticeable difference. although i did the tps mod, i had to set the tps back to stock for it to run right with the chip. i guess the chip helps recalibrate that along with other things such as timing and whatnot. i used the 180 tstat with the stage 2 chip. i had the header style manifold and drop in k&N

I have one in mine since I couldn't pass up the price for it and a remanu ECU. I think it makes a slight difference; it's definitely noticeable in acceleration but over all...it gave back the little power I lost when I installed taller tires. Plus I gained 1 MPG. Every little bit counts right?

I'd say it's worth it's price if you can find it for cheap used like I did and you're willing to give it a shot. Otherwise not worth the $250.00 price tag.

I know a few Ranger owners who put one on their 3.0 and 4.0 motors. They said they liked the way it shifted better (automatic trans) and the pulling power was increased a bit. Gas milage stayed the same but they were happy with it. I see them advertised on our site here.

ya i think im gonna get one for my motor thats in it to give it a little more pep and juist sell it when im finished with the rebuilt

The stock ROM on a 2.9 or early 4.0 can be reprogrammed by almost any tuner - I'd ask a dyno shop. I know of one up the street that does a good job on Fords.

just replace the 2.9 with the 4.0, problem solved... lol

but seriously, i've been curious to know if the jet chip was worth it for my 4.0 or not..
