Hi all! I installed an after market one on my 97 Ranger and it works great. I just picked up an 08 Ranger and from what I've read on Ford's accessory web site, it seems I may have to buy Ford's own remote starter due to the coded ignition key. I have no problem buying Ford's remote starter and interface kit, but I would like to install it myself. Has anyone had experience with this? Does it come with instructions and details where to find the components I need to connect to? It states that it is a 3 hour install by a Ford qualified mechanic. Should I just bite the bullet and have them do it? I'm an electrician, so I would figure that I'm qualified.
Thanks,
Joe

Check out http://www.the12volt.com. I install remote start systems practically every workday and I use this site for all my wiring questions. I would suggest using a databus bypass for your remote start system. Ford transponder systems are very finicky when it comes to placement of the ring that goes around the key cylinder. With a data bypass, it's a couple of wires and bada bing, you're done.
