temperature gauge help

Hey the information that I am looking for is probably here already. But I can't find it. My temperature gauge is not working in my truck. Just put a new thermostat in it and I have a new Coolant Temperature Sensor to go in it but I can’t seem to find where it is located on the motor. Any help would be great.

on my 99 both coolant sensors are in the tstat housing......according to Haynes your sending unit(for the gauge) is located on the driverside at the rear of the block just below the head........the sensor for the ecu should be in the tstat housing

the motor in the 99 is the 2.3 bored out a little and is a 2.5 basically yhte same thing..........as i look the thread over I dont know what year truck you are talking bout 87? 95?
 
my gauge doesn't work at all, so i had to go to an aftermarket one. the only temp gauge for a 1st gen i could find was a jy pull and you take your chances. couldn't find a new OE from ford or any other sources. hope yours is just the sending unit and not the gauge itself.
 
OK found and replaced the sending unit. Went out for a drive and the gauge only came to little bit above the cold line and would not stay steady. Before the sending unit went out it would stay about dead center. The only thing I did was put a little teleflon tape around the sending unit. Would the tape be causing my problem or maybe not getting the sending unit tight enough?
The only other thing that I can think that may be giving trouble is the fact that auto parts store sending unit did not have the right connector on it so bought one for a 2.0 instead of 2.3

Check the resistance to ground at the cluster plug. Might be a wiring issue.
