Read all I can find on this site and others about cams for the 2.9L v6. I would like to get a cam that would increase low end torque. The one vendor I can find that lists such a cam doesn't give any details and I can't find a price on their website. Anyone know of vendors with good information and how much a cam might cost?
 
When I had my cam ground for my 2.9L, I looked for a mfr actually willing to do it and worked with them on the specs. Also ask about valve springs. All depends on what your goals are. They will ask you everything down to your gear ratio and size of tires to what the truck will be used for. I would expect to pay around $200. Think Tom Morana also has some stuff for the 2.9L, Camcraft did (but looked liked their site was under construction last time I looked), maybe a couple others I can't think of off hand if you want to window shop, but hard to find 2.9L stuff advertised, not many are buying this sort of stuff to justify trying to push and manufacture a bunch of stock that no one is buying.
 
We ran an mild cam in a 2.9 at one point... Useless... Didnr help a bit. Wanna know what did help? The 4.0 swap. Not trying tO give you answers you didn't look for. But the cam in the 2.9 didnt help me at all...
 
well if you've already checked out Colt Cams and Camcraft Cams, i'd just try the major suppliers like Summit Racing and Jegs and see if they have any additional information. the support at Summit is very good and should be able to answer your questions.

Delta Cams

I use delta cams here in tacoma wa-they do mail order and are very inexpensive
 
Supersix motorsports has some awesome cam grinds for the 3.8 and 4.0 as well as the 4.2 and 4.2 stroker ( stroked 3.8) They would be my best guess for cam genius's, they work real close with compcams for their kits.

Thanks for the info. Checked out Delta Cams website and found some good info. Looks like I might be able to get what I want by changing the cam timing by a few degrees. Of course that means possible interference between the valves and pistons. :icon_confused: Going to have to do some more research.
