So this has been sitting in the woods at my grandparent's house for as long as I can remember. They wanted it gone so who you gonna call...

The good side:

The bad side: (yes, I pulled it home 40 miles on three legs... snapped off all three lugs removing the tire that was almost rotted off the wheel... and yes it's supposed to have six lugs.)

But this is my favorite - yeah those are steering knuckles welded straight. I want to get baked with the guy who created this pile so I can build awesome shit too. Oh yeah it was missing a couple leaf spring bolts too so the springs were just free floating.

nice find. can you post a pic of one of the wheels? they look kind of cool.

That’s how they use to make trailers on the farm. Old truck axle's welded straight. My grandfather use to do this in Missouri.
 
My grandpa had several hay wagons made with 1930's car axles and wheels for his dairy farm in WI.

why pay when you can make them?

Haha this thread makes me laugh. I would have taken more pics but I ended up selling it today. If I hadn't sold it, it would have gone in for scrap... this thing was seriously dangerous and I was nervous just pulling it back. The frame is 2" i-beam and was really wavy... must have had a ridiculous load on it at one time.

The axle thing is whatever I guess... not something I'd do... maybe for a garbage trailer or whatever but if you got the steering just a degree or two off when it was welded, you'd go through tires like crazy and it would pull like shit.

I really just wanted the wood off the sides for my dad, and was getting it out of my grandparent's land as a favor.
 
Looks like the axle under my car dolly except it has to be from a 5 lug older dodge, because the p/o broke one of the studs before he figured out the one side has opposite threaded lugs. The retard that built it didn't weld the knuckles, they left the tie rods in place and made it so you could pull a pin and have it "steer" while towing. I felt it was very unsafe so I welded the pin in place. Looks like a pos, but I only payed $100 for it and have towed many different vehicles all over 3 states with it.

for a farm trailer, just pulling hay or something behind a tractor... it wouldn't matter. we have trailers that i would never pull behind my truck! lol. now for a road trailer.... not happening unless you know its straight and all
