I've had this 2007 Focus SE sedan for about 6 months. Less than 10,000 miles on it. When it's cold, 40F or below, and I have the wheel cut shaply in a parking lot and accelerate, there is a loud grinding noise coming from the front end. This happens when I first get under way; as I drive around the noise eventually goes away.

My buddy has a new Mazda 6 and says the exact thing happens to his car. When the outside temp is cold, the wheel is cut sharply, and he accelerates, a loud grinding comes from the front end.

It almost sounds like a toasted CV shaft, but to have it happen on two new cars is too much of a coincidence. Does anyone know what would cause this?

i belive that car still has an open TSB for the passenger side cv axle carrier bearing. i could go check if you give me your vin. your buddy's 6 is very very similar to your focus. Tough to diagnose what im not there to actually here.
BTW i work for ford as a full time technician. i'll run an oasis report and post it back up here if you want

Or take it to the dealer for warranty repair.

There is a recent TSB about not enough grease in the outer CV joint or something like that. I don't remember what the TSB said exactly.
