Hey, im new to this website and i got referred to come to this website to help me out with my lil project i plan on doing this summer. I plan on trying to cram a ford 400 off into a 80's model ranger, extended cab long wheel base and what all do yall think i need to do to the engine bay to help make this monster fit? i know gonna have to cut the inside fender wells out and probably some of the firewall for the exhaust but what else sides that? im half way decent at fabrication myself but my uncle is a genius when it comes to this.:icon_idea::icon_idea:
also, how about the frame and suspension also? i know it is gonna be tough and alot of work but i like a good challenge. i also wanted to do this because ive heard of 302 swaps and 351's also but never a 400, want something unique you know. and i also want it to be able to drag race some while be able to drive around in town if i want. the motor is built to an extent as it is and i plan on using a 9 inch ford rear end to tote the horsepower and torque its pushing out. what is yalls suggestion on gear ratio also? was thinking 3;53'S but now leanin towards 3:73's.

Sure it can be done but you are going to need a good bit of fab. The 400 is pretty much the size of the 460 same as weight. You are going to hear a lot about not using the 400. It really isn't too much of a high performance engine with little aftermarket to it. Your biggest probems will be the steering and exhaust.
