Well got the garage cleaned up and Sherry is happy so next week I pull my engine and find out the news. If you missed my other post I ran the engine for the first time but lost oil pressure. Not sure the cause. I was wondering if I can just pull the engine? Every time I put the engine in I always had the tranny hooked up. I am thinking I could take out the bolts to hook up flex plate to torque converter and bell housing to engine, Shim between the torque converter and bell housing and block up the tranny. It would save me a bunch of take aparting. Moved the remote oil filter closer to the engine, it now sits in front of the radiator bracket on the driver side instead of on the passenger side next to the radiator. Any suggestions will be appreciated!:icon_confused:

You can just pull the engine. Probably would make it easier for you. Good Luck hope you dont find anything major.

I have installed/removed lots of engines disconnected from the transmission in the vehicle - even a front wheel drive Tempo. I think for the amount of space involved w/ the core support still attached, I found it a lot easier than trying to remove or install with transmission installed, but that is personal opinion based on what tools I have.

Make sure to put a jack under the tranny bell housing cause it's going to drop once it's disconnected. Also make sure torque converter is properly seated in trans before bolting it back up. Getting the engine back on the bell housing with the flex plate studs aligned can be tricky, the more patience you give it, the less time you will spend. GM uses bolts instead of studs in the torque converter and that is one thing I think Ford should have followed suit on.

When i swapped engines this past spring i used a ratchet strap run over the frame rail and under the trans bellhousing to hold the trans even left the mount and driveshaft in place. Was still able to move it outside for cleaning. I used a 2" strap. Goodluck

pulling engine

Started removing stuff off engine etc on friday. Decided to move oil filter closer to engine and got side tracked on that. Moveing oil filter in front of radiator support bracket next to driver side frame. Cut about two feet off of oil filter hose! Hope to have engine out by next monday. The strap idea is great. Thanks much for the suggestion!

Good Luck Man, keep us posted.
