Fabbing up for coilovers on '99s and up?

I know there are some kits out there such as RCD and Dixon Bros that eliminate the torsion bars with coilovers. i wanted to know if there was anyone out there that has just bought the coilovers and fabbed up the brackets? How much work was involved and what did you do? i am tired of my ground grabbers (torsion bars) and already have a 4" superlift. I dont have the time or money to do a SAS or buy one of the kits like i previously mentioned. Just wanted to see if i could make it myself and what needs to be done.

You would need to go with 8" coilovers if you want to keep your a/c. There are no "brackets" so to speak, its not that simple. A failry intracate shock hoop needs to be built and welded to the frame. This needs to be done by an experienced person as this will hold the entire wieght of the front end, and the geometry needs to be correct. It is not easy. Theres alot of crap in the way, and you really have to "stuff" those shocks in there, while keeping strength and geometry in mind.

It would probably take an experienced "garage fabber" a full weekend.

coil over's are not cheap to let you know, about $1200 for a pair for the big brands...fox,king, sway a way,bilstien etc ,foa is a bit cheaper
So if your worried about money..............

damn, i didnt realize coilovers were that much. i though that between myself and some welders i know we could pretty much fab up whatever was needed, but i would obviously need to by the coilovers and it looks i could do a SAS for about the same price.

check out FOA shocks. They have some inexpensive coilovers. (less then half what the Big boy brand shocks go for) They save money by using a cast aluminum rather then machining the parts. This is virtually the only difference between these shocks and fox, king, saw, etc. Totally fine if your not SUPER hard on em.

go to the ranger forum and go to off road ware house they have the tabs bolts and the co shock for 200 buck i think

^ I think ORW quit selling them. However, there is a thread by ME00Stepside in which some of the guys are trying to re-create the ORW offerings. If I'm not wrong ME00Stepside has actually started selling the re-creation brackets.
