ok got the carbed 302 in my 89 ranger to run, i want to use the existing fuel pump in the tank, what fuel pressure regulator is best to use, and im kinda on a budget. the wife is allready mad as all hell with all the money i already put in her. if anyone can give me some pointers.

ohhh and if its possible can i get a cheap inlne fuel pump and just keep the old pump in the tank
 
The high dollar solution is a special conversion regulator that allows you to run the original EFI pump:

Your idea to use a low pressure inline pump in the EFI supply line should also work. I would probably eliminate the in-tank pump altogether but you may be able to simply pull fuel through it with the other pump. In any case, the fuel injection return line would need to be sealed off.
 
Low buck approach, I know of a s10 running a carb on a 350 . with the efi in tank pump. the pump out line is hooked to the return line with a tee at the carb. Been that way for acouple of years
 
so your sayin get a t fitting hook the main fuel line to that as well as to the return line and run a cheap pressure regulator to the carb
 
No regulator, the return line is smaller than the presure line and will have resitance to flow of fuel. It don"t take much presure to keep the fuel bowl full.
 
sounds to good to be true where did your buddy put the t at towards the tank or up at the motor
 
Where the two lines end at the carb. , and as close to the carb as you can.
 
ill give it a shot when i get home after work, worst thing that happens is that it leaks, then have to go and buy a regulator
 
I started by trying just the in tank pump. Not enough horses to get the gas to the crab. So...I keep my in tank pump and replaced the high pressure EFI pump (in the rails) to a low pressure cheap holly pump and ran a regulator between the holly pump and carb with a return line back to the tank. Works great. You can adjust the pressure to right where you want it. Here are a few photos during my build. I hope this helps.

dont think i got a secondary pump, pretty sure all i got is one in the tank
 
I dug up a front timing cover with the provision for a mechanical fuel pump and use the return port on the tank as my pickup. Can still run the fuel gauge to empty, without running out of fuel. In other words, I don't run out with the gauge still showing fuel. So I use a mechanical pump, gives the right pressure for a carb.

thanks jmcleek putting that t fitting on there seemed to do the trick, im going to invest in a pressure gauge to see what i got flowing through it
