Call me stupid, Call me old....but what does FTW mean?

I've seen people type the acronym FTW after a message on occasion. What exactly does this mean? I know what the letters reversed mean, LOL. I consider myself to be pretty damn hip to internet lingo, but this one's got me. The only thing I can think of is "follow the way", which really makes no sense to me.

I remember even in the 70's the young GI's wrote it in every latrine, bar ect. It meant F*ck The World to them and may still. :icon_thumby:
