I just recently rolled my short course off road race truck. It's a 1991 Ford Ranger 4x4 4.0l 5-speed standard.
The cage and harness [thanks to everyone for the input on cage and harness mounting] did it's job. I've pushed the rad and the top of the core support back 4"-6". Rather than fix this I want to build an engine cage that incorporates spring/shock mounts and rad support. I want to run a tube from the junction of the a pillar/dash tube/top door bar to the frame front cross member to stiffen up the chassis. Also another horizontal U-shaped tube from the same junctions to pick up the top of the fenders and rad. My thoughts after the rollover is that I should build in some crush to absorb some energy when I crash again.
Can some one post some pics with an explanation of why you built like you did.
Perhaps this is a case where a dead tube would be good?
Make the crush section bolt on so I can fix easier?
Smaller tube inside bigger plus bolts for friction?
Purposely have a bend so that in a crash the main cage is not affected[as much]?
Any suggestions and/or links to engine cage builds are appreciated.
