Well lately my trucks been having problems with the 4X4 its a 96' ranger 4.0.
seems when i back up on the snow and try to get going alls it does is spin..i know this might sound stupid but i would think it should at least be able to move forward without the fourwheel drive. Now today i was driving it in 4wd and seemed it didn't lock in all the way the truck was doing this fish tale deal and wouldn't drive straight. what could be the possible problems?

Well, do you have push button shift? Does the lights come on, does it shift correctly? Another question: Do you have automatic hubs? The may not be engaging correctly.

Hmmm, check those hubs for broken parts, or being dried out, that might be your problem.

yeh listen to ranger44, also if you go into the 4wd forum or the transfer case forum or you can go to the tech library where it will tell you how to check if the tranfer case and or hubs are engaging!

i jacked the truck up and the front wheels both moved freely..and the four wheel drive seemed to work alright..but should all the tires move freely if in neutral and the brake off...because the driver side rear doesn't want to move
