I have been trying to find the brand of thermostat you-all recommend for a 1994 Ranger supercab with a manual transmission, 4-WD.

Thanks

Any will do. Just go down to the local auto supply.

Reco9mmended one (?)

I always felt,"any old one will do" but after reading about all the troubles with the cooling system on the 4. I remembered a specific model being recommended and since I have replaced the radiator, heater core, flushed out the block several times and still am generating brown gunk, not oily, seems more like brown paint tint. The resivor spills over randomly and I add water, antifreez solution randomly. Oh yes the temp guage will go on up to the hot side and then drop back to midrange favoring the hot side.

I don't know if all this helps or not :dunno:

Hmmm... have you checked the water pump? Are you talking about the 2.3 I4 or the 4.0 V6? You may want to check that, and maybe look into loose intake manifold bolts (if the 4.0) or a crakced head. I had the same problem on my 2.3. Kept on getting gunk(brownish, rusty), always had to add coolant. Ended up being, a chewed up water pump, a cracked head, and a plugged up radiator.

The engine is a 4.0 however the water-pump will be next on my list. I will also suggest the tightening of the intake manafold bolts as well. Maybe this will get it under control.:dunno:

I have heard that the intake bolts will allow coolant loss. Oil in the coolant, doesn't always appear as droplets. It does sometimes look like rusty water.

:icon_hornsup:Dropped off the truck to be checked and the mechanic found one of the intake manifold bolts about finger tight! He is ordering a gasket kit and will install it tomorrow. I will let you know if this corrects everything or if I have to do the waterpump as well.

I should close this link since everything I found was:

Leaking lower+ iintake gasket
Leaking hose by the thermostat

Contributing factor also and I believe what started me on the chasing was an intermittent "ck engine light7t" was a dirty MAF sensor.

Got all of the above taken care of and my little baby runs like new! Just turnoing 100000 so it really isn't broken in yet according to youall.

Just want to say thanks for all the help.
