I ordered the lower cap extension for my SC and since it sits higher than I expected, I was wondering which is better: to leave it on the outside and weld it in up high, or to put it up underneath and weld it down where it rusted out? (of course I would cut/grind it out to get all the rust out)

any thoughts?

thanks
Paul

I would do a flat butt weld. A lip would aid in weld easement, but moisture will get behind that lip and cause it to rust out again.

A butt weld is tough to do with gaps and everything, but it'll come out flat as long as you don't concentrate your heat in one spot.

And make sure you cut out ALL the rust. Any left behind will spread like cancer.

oh I didn't even think of a butt weld... :-( I haven't done that since a freshman in high school and do you have any idea how long that's been? :) let's just say it's probably longer than most of the members have been alive :) time to practice... :icon_welder:

thanks

Paul
