I have a 2001 Ranger with a 4.0 and 5-speed auto. It has 40k miles and runs great but the transmission hates to downshift. I have to mash the gas pedal to the floor to pass someone and even then it doesn't always downshift. The transmission was serviced at 30k so that is not the issue. Is this controlled by the computer or maybe a downshift cable?
