Aloha,

I am in the process of replacing the upper and lower ball joints on my 2000 Ranger 2WD coil spring suspension. The lowers came out nice and easy. I am having trouble getting the upper ball joints out. I for the life of me cannot find a retaining clip and cannot get it to press out. Any help?

I have done this kind of work before. I have access to all the tools in the shop and have a very good working knowledge of mechanics.

I have the parts in hand and can see the replacements have a clip to hold it in. The old one's don't seem to have a clip.

Thanks in advance.

Aloha,

well you are right about the old ones not having clips. if you haven't you will prob. want to take the upper a arm out it makes life alot easier. then what I did was spray the bj down with pb blaster, took the bj press and tightened it down good (to the point I was making no progress) took my 3lb slug and hit the back of the press a few times to break the joint lose(or till it moved a little) then went to town.
this seemed to work for me good luck with yours.

Hey, thanks for the reply. I did solve the problem. I ended up taking off the upper control arm and using a 20 ton hydraulic press. I'll post a "how to" in the next few weeks or so. I hope it'll be helpful to others.

Thanks again,

Aloha,

OK, here it is. It's in first draft form so I hope it is useful to others. Once again, this is for a 2000 2WD Ranger with coil spring suspension. I don't know if this is same or different for others. Good luck.
