Hey all, I'm trying to figure out why my basically stock '87 ranger truck is pogo-ing off these whoops. Rules here; http://wheel2wheel.ca/Rules/W2WModified4x4Truck2010August.pdf - Read page 4.

I'm using the stock STX Highrider suspension on the front with the addition of an extra pair of shocks and some tweaking to allow a little more bump [ up travel ]. The back is stock leafspring with the addition of an extra pair of shocks.
I know this is old school stuff but I'm hoping for some insight on WHY this is happening. Perhaps there is a thread or link to another forum that can give some basic understanding of 'stock' suspensions in a race environment or hopefully one or more of you can help in my quest for knowledge.
Thanks,
Richard

your shock valving is way off.

You need more compression in the front end and less compression in the back end, rebound look ok in the front but teh rear could use a little more.

whats happening is the the front is hitting the first bump and absorbing it, then the rear hits and due to the stock springs, less weight in rear, and too much compression, it causes the rear end to hit and instantly bounce up like that.

what i would do is try to find some f350 shocks from a TTB for the front, i would bet they have a decent amount of compression in them or get some rancho 9000 that are adjustable and crank them to 4 or 5 in the front.

The rear, ditch the second set of shocks, pull the overload leaf if you havnt, and put some weight back there like the battery.

When my ranger had only a lift on it, it had regular racnho shocks for the lift and it would mob over 2 foot whoops like those with ease. granted the rear leafs were sagging and overly abused,it still ran good.
