I have a 95 4x4 4l auto and it is making a loud noise like a rod. I have been reading on the boards and think maybe it could be a cracked flywheel?? Is there an inspection cover to check or do I have to drop the tranny?

There is an inspection plug, but it is on the bellhousing so when you pull it out all you will be able to see is the clutch assy.

I don't know of any good way to check the flywheel.

There is a metal plate on the very front of the transmission, sandwiched between it and the motor. You may be able to take the bottom bolt loose on it and move it enough to peek in there, but I am not sure how well that would work.
