any one have any ideas about what direct replacement, to the stock hangers, high performance exhaust system works best on my 2000 2.5l ,5 speed truck. info for cat converters and back pipe system.
i'm not trying to make a firebreather out of this thing. just help the motor breathe better. i've installed a air intake sys & a chip. anyones help, ideas, prior things that worked for you, or web links, would be of great help. also not the super-high end stuff. mid priced and down priced items being i only drive about 5000 mi a year..

You can check out the exhaust in LMC. They have a dual system and a single system that THEY CLAIM is 50 state legal.

I believe that this part assembly will fit your truck. I got the Magnaflow catylitic convertor assembly that fits the 2.3 in the '97 (my truck) and it fit perfectly. Then I bought a short transition pipe to connect the new muffler to the new converter assembly. I purchased a "Raptor" turbo muffler made by Flowtech (only about $30 at Advanced Auto). Then I just did a little turn down after the muffler. THe whole project cost about $225 -$235. The sound is awesome. No tiny muffler like a ricer. It sounds so much like a tuned Mustang its crazy. The key, I was told by a friend that owns a muffler shop up the street, is that you need to buy the turbo muffler. A glass pack will give the 4 cylinder the "can of bees" sound. I have 204,000 miles on my truck, am running heavy 16" steel rims and still get 23 to 24 miles per gallon city or highway. And I don't baby her either. So if you can find the same manufacturer for your application, I would get it because it really works well.

I wouldn't bother changing the cat, it'll flow plenty... anything you do after the cat should be completely legal. The thrush welded mufflers are only about $40 shipped from Jegs, sounds good on my turbo engine...
