Remote Entry

I'm curious, is it possible to program another keyles entry remote to work on my 94 Explorer? I only have one, the other one got lost. If it can be reprogrammed, I will be looking for another remote. I believe mine is factory, it has Ford written on it.
If it won't work, how do I disconnect the system? I have to hit the button every time to override the starter disable. It gets a little annoying having to disarm every time I want to start it.

Yes, you can another one. RKEs typically can hold up to four remotes, and systems that old usually have a simple procedure, not involving special equipment. Not sure, but the truck's owner manual (if you have it) might cover the programming. You buy them from the dealership, or on the web (like eBay), and most sellers include programming instructions (be sure to ask for them).

Edit: In fact, when I left this page after posting the above, there were two ads right on the TRS forums' page for factory remotes.

My 97 mountaineer was very simple if they are the same.dealer just took one out of the draw.about 1 minute and bingo.Sorry... I dont remember the way to do it though.I think it is in the manual where you can change the door pad code.

Factory Ford systems can be disarmed by simply unlocking the driver or passenger door with the key.

So I am gonna assume that yours is not a factory system. Factory systems do not have an Override button.

Does your remote resemble this

If so its a Code Alarm and you can obtain remotes from the dealer or from Code, getting it from code will save you alot of money.

If all you wanna do is disable the ignition kill feature, locate the module, the two pin plug (top plug in the picture) is the ignition kill wires. Unplug that plug and jump the two wires together, dont danage the plug. You might wanna put it back together in the future.

Code Remotes will come with programing instructions.

But here they are anyway

Instructions for programming your new Code Alarm Remote(s)
Note: Each System module has four “slots”, or memory locations, to store
transmitter codes, giving it the ability to operate from up to four transmitters.
For proper operation, a transmitter code must be stored into each memory slot.
When using less than four transmitters, follow the suggested programming
parameters:
· One Remote Transmitter – Program four (4) times
· Two Remote Transmitters – Program each transmitter two (2)
times.
· Three Remote Transmitters – Program two transmitters one (1)
time, and the remaining transmitter twice.
1. Open the driver’s door, leave the door open and make sure the dome light
is ON.
2. Turn vehicles ignition on (Ignition ON engine OFF).
3. Press and hold emergency override button (A small black headed push
button commonly found under the driver side dash) After about 10-13
seconds, the siren or horn will sound three (3) times. This indicates that
the unit has entered the transmitter-programming mode.
4. Continue to hold in the programming override button.
5. Press the ARM (or LOCK) button on the remote transmitter to be
programmed. The siren or horn will sound once, indicating that the
system has “learned” that remote transmitters code.
6. Repeat step 5 for any additional transmitters or transmitter codes.
7. Release the programming override button.
8. Turn the ignition off to exit the programming mode. Test remote
transmitters to ensure that they work properly by toggling back & forth
the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons.
