ECU Differences

Anyone know what the differences are between the ECU part numbers? In particular an EFI-SD6 from an 86 over an EFI-SD24A from an 88?
 
If an ECU is the Electronic Control Module the differences would be what vehicle the ECM was burned for. Auto or manual. 2.9 or 2.8. 2wd or 4x4. Federal emissions or restricted emissions etc..... I would just about bet you put the 88 ECM in an 86 you'd get nothing. It might start but I doubt it would run well at all.

I think it would run, just your engine service soon light would be on(as the ECU is looking for additional sensors that are not there)

But wouldn't the bulkhead connector be different? Or is the bulkhead connector the same but with omitted wires based on vehicle options?
 
google the entire number, most of the time you can figure out what each ecm came out of.
 
It will run, it will probably even run well. The sensors and such weren't changing every year to keep up with constantly changing emissions standards back then, so you might not even have too many issues assuming that it was the same engine/trans combo. You might still get a CEL.

Those are somewhat different programs though. I'm not even sure if those are for the same engine.

Oil Patch: No, the bulkhead connectors were the same physically, they just had different pin-outs for different vehicle configurations.
