ideas on rockwells

I am working on getting a set of rockwells for my 96 ram 1500 its a 70% mud truck and 30% trail truck.

Here what i need advice on.

1. should i go coils front leafs rear or leafs all the way around? and Why?

2. how much lift would you run for a 46" or a 52" tire?

I am planning on hydro steer and pinion brakes.

thanks

Send a pm to Punisher, he just did a build using rockwells and he does mostly trail. Also checkout his build under the "RBV's Under Construction" page, its right near the top. Hes running 44's and front and rear hydro stearing with pinion brakes.

P.S. Check out his website as well. Its CreepyCrawlers4x4.com

Curl, i was about to buy a full hydro setup from a zuwharrie member.

I'll pass the deal on because i need a 6 inch ram.

"8" ram, orbital valve, PSC res w/ filter, and all hoses."

All you need is a pump, obviously.

I brought him down to 450 shipped.

Let me know if you want it asap, i will get his number or something for you to call.

Neal.

Where can you get steering for cheaper? I would like to buy a setup, but i only need a 6 inch ram, and prolly a smaller orbital than you would be using.
That reservoir he has is about 120 from PSC and orbitals from surpluscenter.com are about 350-400 and then the rams are around 70-80. Then factor in lines and shit and it adds up.

Anyways to actually answer your question, i would go leafs all around. Hell, they are cheap, easy to build, easy to maintain, proven, easy to lift, and for mud, you dont need anything really except lift and power.
Link suspensions are so expenive, i'm having trouble buying tubing, tube adapters, cheap hiems and hardware for my tierod, i couldnt imagine buying and building 7 more of them for 4links, then purchase coilover/airshocks/coilbuckets or whatever you use.

You will also need tracbars for sure, prolly 2 in the rear, and i would build panhard bars since i assume you will be using a tall lift spring.

I personally would never consider a tire that big, but then again this is a mud truck.
I would go with the 47 inch ltbs. They are way cheaper than any other tire on the market, unless you go with an ag-style tire.

Dont they say the bigger the truck the smaller the brains?

Again, if it were me, i wouldnt build a mud truck like this. Get a 60 up front and get locked front and rear, and hit some trails!

My truck does trails but with the 38.5 and d44 the turning of trails kills it

the reason to go rockwells not d60 is base cost for both is the same

52" tires are for mud and will work with rocks and cost 500 for 4 of them

44" or 46" tires are for trails and mud which is what i want and is 5 for 500 bucks

rockwells are the final axle i will have to buy i don't want to have to worry about my axles anymore i know they can break

Yea i definitly agree on the last axles you will buy and 60s are pretty expensive.

Where can you get a steering setup for cheap?
I am getting ready to do mine, and i want full hydro.

The guy who made my suspension just put 5-tons under a Dodge M-37. He used Chevy 12'' lift springs front and rear and they are running 52's. It was cheap and easy for them. He runs with some of the Trucks Gone Wild guys and they all told him to go with leafs to keep it simple. I can get pics to you if you would like.

ok i am going to do leaf springs on all four corners easier then coil springs and it allows me to move my axle forward a few inches to help clear bigger tires with out going huge on the lift

i am looking to go 12" of suspension and on just the cab i will be doing a body lift if i need the extra lift to clear 53" tires
