I thought about it for my race truck but that's as far as it got. I have a bladder inside a steel can and it would have taken too long to fab something up. But I thought of cutting the top off of a steel tank, then drilling the holes around the perimeter to fit my cell;

i got a used aluminum tank from a boat. 27 gallons of pure joy! the filler hose cost as much as the tank, $50, but was worth it when it was all done. added the line and my main line into a manual switch (new from a boat parts store) right next to the driver's seat. i use the boat tank 1st as there is no fuel gauge for it, when the truck sputters, i switch to me original tank that does have the gauge. with the 21 mpg's i'm getting, i'm good for just over 800 miles between fill-ups on long trips. yeah, i'm a very happy camper!!

I've seen pics where somebody did it with a plastic fuel cell, but I can't remember the site or post....SORRY!

I thought of doin somethin similar with a Bronco II tank, but decided to go with a Harwood 12 gal. fuel cell.

im tempted to go ahead with a b2 tank...

the deal is im going to a tube bed and i want the tank out from under the truck, getting tired of dragging it across the rocks

whatever i use will be going right behind the cab on top of the frame rails

2 tanks. fuel line for the aux tank in the bed goes to a manual switch that comes up right next to my seat. original tank line goes to the same switch. mine being an '83, mechanical fuel pump on the motor. all i do is turn the switch to whichever tank i want to use. simple and nothing electrical to screw up. the aux tank is 48" x 18" (approx due to shape of the tank), x 7" high and holds about 27 gallons, mounted right up to the cab end of the bed. fits like it was supposed to be there.

I used a stock '88 F-150 2wd 5.8l frame rail high pressure pump [what I had handy] and bought a low pressure suction pump, mounted directly in front and above the tank.
From the tank, of the 3 blue fittings - the one on the right
to a clear fuel filter
to low pressure pump
to fuel filter [fuel line size adapter]
to fuel accumulator
to high pressure pump
to 'stock' fuel filter ([used as male to male adapter]hidden behind green drill)
connects to line where original tank used to be;

It looks fugly but it works.
