I recently took my 1999 B4000 off roading and noticed that when I wanted to get out of 4 low, nothing happened. Both 4x4 low and high dash lights started flashing in incriments of 6. Does anyone know where the problem lies? Is it the transfer case motor or a relay? The only way I got it to disengage was to pull the maxi fuse under the hood for all the power.

i had this same problem with my 97 b4000, what i did was backed up about ten to twenty feet and then shifted out and it worked just fine. theres nothing wrong with it unless it grinds when you do it. I learned that trick from my buddy who had the same problem with his explorer

I recently took my 2000 B4000 manny tranny out on the dirt. I also got it in 4low, and then could not get it out. After a while of messing with the switch and backing up a few times, it came out. I replaced the ATF in the transfer case, it looked pretty dark and smelled bad. It then went in and out of 4high very quickly instead of taking a few seconds. But, I am still having a problem getting it into 4low. When I switch to 4low, it shows 4high instead. I appreciate any help in correcting this problem.

I would just swap in a manual tcase and not have to worry about it anymore. I had the same problem you did. Mine wouldn't even go into 4lo and I didn't want to replace the shift motor just to have it happen again. Most likely its just the shift motor on the tcase, they are pretty prone to failure after awhile of use.

When in 4 lo. if you get toomuch traction the transfer case will bind up and reversing is required to relieve stress off the transfer case.
