Convince me to drive a 91 Ranger

Here is the conundrum. My dad has a 2nd gen Ranger. He originally bought it for me to drive. But I didn't want to. But now I do. Should I drive it? It's still a pretty nice truck, almost no rust. Most of the rust is concentrated on the tailgate. It has a 2.9, is 4x4, and 5spd. Should I fix the A/C on this truck and drive it? 'Cause I'm getting sick of not having A/C on warm, humid, and rainy days. So what do you think guys?

Edit: Can you do the Explorer OHC install on a second gen?
 
do it gen 2 is the best body style imo...
 
Drive it! I'd let the A/C go unfixed as I've heard that the 2.9 is just way too doggy with the A/C running.

As for the OHC deal, anything is possible with enough time and effort. I plan to do one in my 1st gen. Once I figure that out I'll let you know how to do it.
 
Go for it, that sounds like one sweet truck. Odds are the A/C just needs a recharge.


Don't worry about it being a dog with the A/C on, even my 2.3 is bearable with power steering and A/C on full blast. I guess that's more a matter of opinion though.

yeah i feel my 2.5 just fine with it and turning 30" tires
 
Well, I live in a valley that is right in the middle of the Appalachian range. I only have 2 ways out of the valley that don't involve hammering the crap out of my main bearings by going up hill in 4th all WOT. 3rd makes me go slow enough that I'm a traffic hazard.

I don't know how PA drivers are around your way, but it seems like if I drive any further than half an hour past the state line just being on the road makes me a traffic hazard.
 
fix the A/C, i've never had any noticible difference running A/C or not running A/C in a 2.9.
 
Free running car/truck = no brainer

Drive it and enjoy it, Rangers are comfortable vehicles to put miles on.
 
I don't know what to say to someone griping about a free truck, we should all be so lucky.
I would NEVER drive a truck with no A/C....NEVER. Fixing the A/C system on a Ranger is easier than any other truck.

Unless your truck is like mine and doesn't have factory A/C.
 
i say hell yeah drive it! fixing the a/c shouldnt be too hard, in some cases the lower evaporator tube that houses the orifice tube blows out (common ford problem) but theres an easy $25 repair kit that fixes it.

should be a great vehicle for ya. the 2.9 + 5spd combo should be quite peppy, and 4wd is always great. plus its my favorite body style with little rust, hell its a no brainer!
