4WD lighst blinking

so on the way home today i noticed my 4WD hi and low lights on the clsuter blinking. truck seems to be running fine but it did it wuite a bit. 5 times in a 7 mile ish trip. first time they flashed 6 times, then 6 times, then 3 times, then 4 times, then 6 times. i got a 98 4.0 auto trans man hubs. switch was turned to off(2wd). any ideas? thanks

Isn't that what happens when the module for the electronic 4wd fails? Did you try to use 4wd? Try it in the driveway.

ya went out to the farm i hunt and ahd to use 4WD in the fields form all the rain we got and it seemed to work great. didnt have the lights blink at all during the 20 miles out there and back. where is the module? maybe a wire is loose and losing contact sometimes
