Where are the caliper mounting bolts?

Still trying to find the source of my brake noise, and came across a few mentions on this site and on the net about caliper mounting bolts. Where are these located? Does anyone happen to have a picture of them?

which truck?

if it's your 86, they are not bolted in, they are on slides

your 93 has a dana 35 right?

probably on slides there too.
 
What kind of brake noise? Rattle? Squeal?

Rattle? missing clips, simple solution, high temp RTV silicone blue, glue the inner pad "ears" to the knuckles receiving cut outs, the silicone does not glue it but more dampen the rattle.


Yes, up to 97, all rangers had slides, both calipers had a pair of metal bars with rubber sandwiched between them.

95-97 were bolted, no slides.
 
Yea it has the slides. That is what was confusing me, I looked all around there for well over fifteen minutes and could not spot any bolts. Good to hear..kind of ha ha.

The noise is a very sollid loud clunk/slam noise when I apply the brakes at any speed, but only going forward. If I apply them hard while going fast, it repeatedly clunks. Noise is from passenger side I think. Its the 93. I just got it but haven't been driving it because I don't know what the noise is.
 
do your pads have those backing clips that lock them to the caliper?
somebody put brake pads that didn't have those on my bronco II and it kicked them out.
 
are you sure it's not the raduis arm clunking in the x member?
 
Thats what I originally thought, but I just changed both bushings. Its not the pads slammin around either, as I just changed them last week and there is no difference in noise.
 
I had the same thing going on with my Ranger. Even though the previous owner stated, "I didn't do anything to the truck",I found out he had put the wrong brake pads on it and the one side was sliding back and forth. I don't know about yours but my 87 can use one of two sets of pads,he got the wrong set and used them anyway :(

Make sure you actually have the insides of your rotors stil in place, Ive seen mor than a few fords running on the slats on the inside where the rotor plate has worn clean off.
 
Not sure what you mean about the rotor plates.

I have kind of good news though... I took it to a dealer today and they didn't have a clue as to what it was, but on the way home... it magically stopped! So basically I bag drove it home and to work, and cannot get it to make the noise that it was previously making every time I touched the brakes. So I will keep driving it for a bit to see if it starts up again, but my best guess is that it just took a bit of driving to get something sitting right in the suspension? It was parked for a couple months before I bought it, and for a month since.

Sure, I'll try to remember to take some pics. I know for sure I've seen your truck around the u of s, pretty hard to miss it ha ha.
 
Check the bolts that hold the radius arm to the axle beam, also check the area where the pads fit into the knuckle and see if the area is all "hammered". There is also a clip that clips onto the bottom of the inside pad to keep it from moving around in there too much. Make sure that the caliper fits in to the knuckle well with very little space on the top and bottom (snug but not tight). Also check your ball joints and steering linkage, and make sure that the coil springs are firmly seated where they are supposed to be. Any of these things could cause a loud pop or bang when braking.
 
The rotor plate I was referring too was the inside surface of the rotor. THe rotor is two wearable plates connected by the little slats in between, one piece or not i dont know, but the inside surface has been known to wear away completely and disintegrate.
