My credo
Confused and Intolerant
My 84 Ford Ranger will not start, I can use the radio, interior lights, and horn, and everything, but when I turn the ignition, it kills the power, I need to lift the hood and twist the positive terminal to give it power again.

It will do this over and over again, ideas?
(p.s. battery is charged)

check for a rusted or loose ground terminal on the engine or frame.
usually that happnes when u have a loose battery terminal

it is rusted, will check it tomorrow, where is it?

going from the engine block to the frame. the battery must have one going from the negative post to the trucks body too.

u sure the starter and starter relay are good?

when this happens, does the positive cable start getting hot?

nope, I turn it, hear a click (electric current moving), and the electricity is back on

silioniod bad?

the electricity cuts out when I turn the ignition, I hear 1 *sput*, and it kills

The battery terminals are clean and tight right? You said you can twist it...meaning it is loose on the terminal...not a good thing.

Should I use a screw driver or something to bypass the solenoid just this once, to start it?

Will I get shocked?

Steps?

Dangers?

Make a SECURE battery connection FIRST. No wiggling allowed. See what happens.

Alright, will try that

I had the guy at autozone clean the battery poles, but I will do them again, but I REALLY need a new set of terminal plugs, mine are so bad they are soft!
