I have some sweet chrome headers for my V-8 swap, problem is, they need to be modified a tad to fit with the AOD. Looks to me like I could make a little pie cut in the large tube after the smaller tubes come together and then re-weld to make them at a different angle to clear. Is there anything different about welding chrome? I know it will look like hell, but I plan on wrapping them anyway.

The chrome will just burn off as fumes, it wont cause an issue with strength at all.

So...wear a mask or grind it off first.

I just got done welding a light bar to my chrome bumper....just grind off the shiny bits first where its going to be welded, and it will weld perfectly fine.

yup chrome is just a micro thin coating of metal...grind and weld

Thanks guys. Sucks to have to ruin a beautiful set of Tri-Y's, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

Cut em...............no guts no glory!

Better have good ventilation, welding chrome produces highly toxic fumes. Wear a mask and try not to breathe it, the rest is cake :icon_thumby:

yep can attest to that :icon_welder:

Cut the ****ers then take them down and have them powder coated...chrome headers are for show off idiots...powder coating last almost forever!!!!!!! I had my headers powder coated years ago and they still looked great 10 years later when I sold my 89 BII.
