When I am driving down the road, the engine will suddenly shut off without any warning or noises. It doesn't matter if I'm going 35 mph or 60 mph on the highway. After it shuts off, it will restart after sitting for a few minutes. Today in 15-mile ride it shut off five times. I have replaced the fuel filter and checked the fuel-pump shutoff switch. Also, I am unsure of my engine size. It is a V6 1994 Ford Ranger pickup, but I cannot find anything on the truck or in the manual that tells me the engine size. Please help with any suggestions. Has anyone else had this problem?

Some friends of mine had that problem with their Bronco, it turned out to be a bad coil.
2.8's died in 1985, in a '94 with a V-6 you would have either a 3.0 or 4.0, there is an emissions label on the radiator support, down towards the bottom of the label it will say what engine it came with originally. Usually there is a label on one of the valve covers too.
Or if you are in for the night here is a VIN decoder, you punch in your VIN and it will tell you what you have too.

Thanks. I finally found that it is a 4.0 engine. Am I allowed to now post this same question in the 4.0 forum?

I don't think it would hurt anything, you would probably get a better answer there than here.
