Plugs are probably different.
 
But all cars 1996 up are OBD2 and they all have the same diagnostic plug. The one thing that i am sure differs is the software in the ECM.

I am wondering what makes the Ford gas 1865 different from say the Chevy gas 2865. If there is a way to compare them without actually buying both maybe one can re-flash the chevy one to ford.

I am going to google now
 
I'm not sure, but i know SCT uses different devices for Ford and Chevy. Don't know how any "chips" work.
