Bob, Them are great birds to watch. Here in Central Wisconsin they have really made a rebound. Have driven by a couple on the small road I live on that were eating a road-kill deer about 15 ft away and they just watched me drive by. Lots of them Winter here and feed just downstream of the dams, eating all the fish that go thru the hydro turbines.

You should come up here. We have hundreds, if not thousands of the things. They are pretty cool to watch. Freaking HUGE birds!

Too true! Some teaser pics.

Here is a link to my photobucket album if you want to see more. Most of these are raft trips well above the Arctic circle. Some are th Johns River and the Koyokuk Rivers in the Gates of the Arctic National Park and some are from the Canning and Marsh Fork Rivers in ANWR. If there are trees, it is Gates of the Arctic South of the Brooks Range. No trees = ANWR above the Brooks. Lots of Alaska wheeling pics in th other albums if you like.

My credo
Yeah... still here.
There is an eagle's nest no more than a 1/2 mile from my place. Next to an apartment complex, no less. There is quite a bit of wildlife here on the edge of town. Deer, coyotes, racoons, duck and geese. My back yard is full of duck shit.

Too true. Growing up in Kodiak I remember driving around (especially near canneries) and seeing dozens sitting in a tree. I kinda chuckle when people freak out about one around here. "Oh just one?" Lol.
