I have a 1999 4x4 4.0 Ranger automatic. At various intermitent times the engine will not shut off, when I turn the key off and remove the key the engine continues to run.... I have to play with the key, like turning it on and off many times or putting it in gear and turning the key on and off. What would be the causes for this issue? I sprayed the ignition with penetrant to see if that helps but not sure because I still have the issue. Has anyone else had this problem? Just as a side note, I leave the key in the ignition all the time and lock the door with the key in it. I am not sure if that means anything but just thought I would mention it. I also do not use my tilt very much at all. Thanks.

WOW I can't believe I am the only one with this issue......any help?

Sounds like the ignition switch is bad, and not the key part but the acual switch that the key turns. You have to take the steering column apart to get to it but its not that hard. Check out autozone.com, they have the repair guieds online to fix your truck. theres a link on the home page and after you pic your truck the igniton switch will be under steering and suspenion.

Thanks I will try that.
