Hi all - appreciate any advice.

'94 Ranger 2.4L Automatic

The truck starts fine when cold - sounds fine, drives fine.

After about 5 minutes or so it warms up and just goes crazy. Loses all power and sputters, hesitates. If you stop, put it in park and then put it back in drive it will just jerk and stall unless you really feather the gas, then it will just barely move - hesitates and jerks, sputters. If you put it in neutral and stay on the gas it will stay running, although it sounds different than when idling cold. After warm-up and issues start, it will not idle without your foot on the gas. After it dies, it will restart only if you floor the gas.

I've cleaned the intake and the MAF.

What should I try next? Any ideas appreciated. Thank you!

Curtis

check fuel pressure when it has a problem

change your fuel filter

if it's flooding out (having to floor it to start), it could be a stuck injector, see if you loose fuel pressure after you turn the key off, if so, you could have a stuck injector, I had one a while ago that did similar things.

+1 on fuel filter and fuel pressure, also clean/check the idle air control valve/air bypass valve

Also, somtimes when one or both of your coil packs go bad they only act up when they get warm.

I agree with cmikee. I aslo experienced issues with the ignition module, which is mounted on the intake manifold.

I know this is old but I am having the same problem.
The only way I can drive it is with the spout plug unplugged I think it is also called the shorting bar. With that plugged when it worms up it will spit and sputter jerk. If I give it gas it will smooth out till I start cruising again ignition module is good

Any help would be awesome!
