96 Ranger manual transmission

My owners manual says that I should put Mercon in my 1996 Ranger 2.3 2wd manual transmission. Does this mean Mercon auto trans fluid in the standard transmission? Thanks

Once you drain the fluid reinstall the drain plug and you fill in the fill plug until it runs out of the fill plug. Then your full.
