choosing tires and size

Im just doing some planning now for when i finally get a new truck. I want some more aggressive looking tires even though the truck will be used mainly on street. I was thinking bf goodrich all terrains.

Im currently looking at a '99 ranger 4x4 offroad. stock size is 245/75r16 i believe. Should I stick with this size or get some 15" cragar soft 8s and some 30" or 31" tires. The 245/75r16's would run me $808 ready to go. I think the 30s and rims would be a little less. Am i better off with one size or the other?

Im open to suggestions on tires too. I want tires that look good to give my truck that more aggressive look but i want them to work good too. thanks

15" rims with 31" tires look badass, and with cragars even better.

a smaller rim with taller tire is better for off roading too.

Yea i know, wheels aren't supposed to be more than half the diameter of the tire for offroad, but this is gonna be mainly on-road.

would 265/75r16's fit with no lift? They're only $3 more per tire!

I would guess that if the 245s fit, then the 265s should fit with cranking your torsion bars in front a bit. Rear shouldn't be a fitment problem.

they are about 31.6" in diameter so you should have no problem fitting them, especially with a slight tbar crank.

anything mud tire made by mickey thompson looks great, i love the sidewalls very aggresive

Hmm... i just realized if i go to a bigger size tire i'd need a new spare too. or could i get away with an inch or two difference...

I guess i should clarify, i think i need more all terrain tires than mud. those would just be overkill. I was also thinking of general grabber at2s, but i dont know how aggressive those look in person

yea you can run a spare thats a bit smaller, just rotate it to one of the back tires and it will be fine

You can get by with a smaller size spare, just use it sparingly :icon_rofl:

Just make sure you don't drive great distances on it or it could ruin a differential.
