I just bought an 87 4cly ranger 4 speed with the overdrive. Got it for $200 lol. Well seems like it needs a water pump or a t stat, cAuse the top house gets a bit swallen and it doesn't look like there is any circulation going. Also there is a bit of smoke coming from the water pump and the truck gets hot after a 15 minute drive. Also I Want a short shifter but I only find from 88 and up. Do they make any for my truck. Thanks in advance

Hmmm...if the top hose is swollen it needs to be replaced...might as well do the bottom if it is the same vintage...

Good news is the pump and t-stat are easy to change...and the hoses to the heater core can be done to pretty much give you a new cooling system (short of the rad and the t-pipe that goes to the intake if it's carbed)...

Is it carbed or FI?

It's fi and I did the water pump an t stat and hose already. And yes it was pretty easy. Now I want a short shifter but can't fin one for my year?

If you want a short shifter get a tranny from a stang! Mine has a T5 and the shifters level with the seat.
